Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The buzz around The Game Awards was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
